Lawrence Condemns Violence at U.S. Capitol

January 7, 2021

HARRISBURG – Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester/Lancaster) issued the following statement in response to Wednesday’s violence at the U.S. Capitol.

“I condemn, in the strongest terms possible, those who have resorted to violence and stormed the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., our nation’s capital.

“In the United States, we settle our differences through the courts, through dialogue and, as stated in the First Amendment, by peaceably assembling to petition the government for a redress of grievances. What we saw yesterday in the U.S. Capitol was none of those things, it was a violent mob and a direct attack on the fundamental foundations of our republic. There is no justification for their unlawful and destructive actions, and this cannot be tolerated in a civil society.”
