HARRISBURG – Today, Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester/Lancaster) issued the following statement concerning this morning’s announcement regarding Jennersville Hospital:

“Today’s announcement from Tower Health is not only shocking, but a complete betrayal of what little trust was left between them and this community.

“Tower’s abrupt decision to close Jennersville Hospital 10 weeks ago was made with complete disregard for the tens of thousands of local residents who rely upon the hospital, as well as their own employees who served faithfully in one of the most challenging times in recent history.

“Despite Tower’s disregard, our community came together with the goal of finding a way to keep the hospital open. We worked in good faith with many stakeholders to develop a plan for the future. Then, just two weeks ago, Tower assured me and this community they had an agreement to keep the hospital open. I, and many others, took them at their word. Now we learn that Tower was making a hollow promise as they failed to vet the proposed buyer, leaving our community in a lurch weeks before Christmas, and their employees with nothing more than uncertainty and a severance check.

“I cannot recall the last time I was this angry, but anger is not going to keep Jennersville Hospital open. Working together with our local first responders, elected officials in county and state government, and other community leaders, I will continue to do everything I can to find a solution at Jennersville that meets the needs of our community.”
